ABC Child Development Center is a private, not-for-profit, research-based provider of quality educational services for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our philosophy is to teach children basic skills by creating an environment that motivates them to communicate and play with their teachers and then to transfer these skills as soon as possible to peers, siblings, and other adults.
The organization uses a variety of quality educational techniques within a caring environment to help children develop their full potential. ABC Child Development Center teaches children with autism through such methods as: Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), applied behavior analysis (ABA), verbal behavior (VB), discrete trial teaching (DTT), natural environment teaching (NET)/play therapy, social skills groups/social stories, and fluency teaching. Our curriculum is based on the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (The ABLLS), an assessment, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system for children with language delays developed by Dr. Jim Partington and Dr. Mark Sundberg.
We encourage all families considering ABC Child Development Center services to schedule a meeting with a supervisor that includes a tour of our center. Contact us at 336.251.1180 or www.abcofnc.org to schedule a tour. ABC Child Development Center provides a wide variety of services, depending on a child's and family's level of need.
The ABC Center is located centrally in Winston-Salem, NC. We provide both one-on-one instruction and group instruction to children with ASD, based on an Individualized Education Plan developed by an Educational Team. Our facility includes access to a wide variety of toys and activities, including an art room, drama room, music room, movie room, computer room, and playground. A supervisor is always on site, each child receives teaching from our highly trained tutorial staff, and each child's family and educational team meets regularly to ensure that progress is always being made. Our staff is highly trained, and includes professionals from the fields of Special Education, Communication Disorders, Music Therapy, Recreational Therapy, and Psychology.
